Dr. Peter Weyand will speak at TFC-Dallas January 25-26

Professor of Applied Physiology and Biomechanics

One of the world’s foremost experts on human performance, Peter G. Weyand, Ph. D., is a frequent source for journalists worldwide on the topic of performance limits such as how fast humans can run.

A physiologist and biomechanist, Weyand was a lead investigator on the scientific team that performed experimental work to appeal the Olympic/IAAF ban of double amputee, South African sprinter Oscar Pistorius.

The Track Football Consortium brings together rebel talent from the worlds of football, track, S&C, and science. The focus is speed and explosive power, but topics are remarkably diverse. At a track or football clinic, coaches are typically exposed to a monoculture of thought. At the Track Football Consortium coaches see and hear things they’ve never seen or heard. Cross-pollination occurs. TFC is one of the most unique gatherings in the sports world.

Tony Holler and Chris Korfist will direct TFC #12 at Jesuit Prep in Dallas. Even though the previous eleven TFCs featured distinguished presenters such as Stuart McMillan (ALTIS), Carl Lewis, Cal Dietz, and Dr. Ken Clark, TFC-Dallas may be the most star-studded consortium to date.

If there was a Mt. Rushmore of speed gurus, Dr. Peter Weyand would be a charter member.

“Dr. Peter Weyand is an internationally renowned scientist in the fields of Applied Physiology and Biomechanics. Dr. Weyand has conducted ground-breaking research on multiple aspects of athletic performance, including running mechanics and speed endurance. His presentation at TFC will be a ‘must see’ event”. – Dr. Ken Clark

From Ken Jakalski, HOF track coach:

For the past 20 years, beginning with his groundbreaking paper on the means by which sprinters achieve faster top speeds, Dr. Peter Weyand has continued to present research that influences the way sprint coaches train their athletes. His insights make the all important practical applications from the treadmill to the track. As coach Mike Young once noted, after Peter Weyand’s analysis of the significance of force, ‘many sacred cows died.'”

At TFC, there are no sacred cows.

Dr. Weyand’s topic? “Force, Motion, Speed: the Scientific Basis of Sprint Running Performance”

Vince Anderson would also make the Mt. Rushmore of speed. Vince Anderson is one of the most respected college sprint coaches in the history of Track & Field. Vince is now a professional coach (most recently coached at Texas A&M). Vince will deliver three presentations.

The strength and conditioning world will be excited to hear Erik Korem (formerly Houston Texans, now William & Mary), Keir Wenham-Flatt (formerly a fixture on the international rugby scene, now at William and Mary with Erik Korem), Matt Van Dyke (football, University of Texas), and NFL veteran, Mike Clark (Redskins, Bears, Chiefs, Seahawks, presently at Trine University).

Some presenters wear more than one hat. Brian Kula is one of the most respected high school track coaches in the country (Valor H.S.). Brian is now even more famous for serving as Christian McCaffrey’s personal trainer. America learned who Brian Kula was when this article came out last April… Why Christian McCaffrey is Training Like a Track Athlete This Off-Season.

Far left, Christian McCaffrey. Far right, Brian Kula.

Football coaches? How about Steve Jones of Kimberly H.S., Wisconsin, winner of 112 of his 119 games and winner of five state championships in a row. The Papermakers once won 70 consecutive games.

Dan Casey runs, arguably, the best football Twitter account in the country, @coachdancasey (24.4K followers). Dan was recently named to the prestigious AFCA 35 Under 35. The AFCA 35 Under 35 Coaches Leadership Institute is a prestigious program aimed at identifying and developing premier, future leaders in the football coaching profession.

TFC directors, Tony Holler and Chris Korfist, will both deliver three presentations. Both are international speakers. Holler is known for his Feed the Cats speed training. Korfist is the owner of Reflexive Performance Reset. Both coach high school track and train elite athletes on the side.

Dallas Jesuit Prep head track coach, Doug Robinson, has coached six All-Americans and 10 individual state champions. Coach Robinson’s topic: “Losing My Religion: The Pursuit of Faster Running Speeds.”

Don Woods, defensive coordinator at Jesuit Prep, helped Jesuit to their first-ever 6A Regional Championship Game in December. His topic: “Geometry and Geography on Defense: Get Your Tail to the Ball!
