TNT Festival of Speed
The TNT Festival of Speed was inevitable. I hosted a Freelap Showcase (free) in 2014 to show some local coaches what Freelap could do. Back by popular demand, I hosted the 2nd Freelap Sprint Showcase in 2015. My 3rd Sprint Showcase (2016) featured $50K of new equipment (SpeedLight and 1080 Sprint). In the summer of 2017 the Sprint Showcase evolved into a sprint science study by Chris Korfist and Dr. Ken Clark (@KenClarkSpeed). Ken Clark is one of the world’s foremost sprint scientists.
Last summer’s sprint science study. Left to right, Marcellus Moore, Kentucky-bound Dubem Anikamadu, Brandon Stryganek, Chris Korfist, and Anthony Capezio. Moore and Capezio ran on Plainfield Norths 3A record setting 4×1 team (41.29).
The humble beginnings of the Freelap Sprint Showcase in 2014 has evolved into the TNT Festival of Speed (June 30 and July 1). The festival has multiple objectives. First of all, we are bringing together speed athletes from all sports, boys and girls, men and women. Those attending will participate in a speed version of the NFL Football Combine, where the best equipment in the world will measure the 10-meter fly, the 40-yard dash, vertical jump, and the force-velocity profile. These metrics will be available to college coaches and several college coaches will be in attendance.
The benefits do not end there. On day two, there will be a four-hour speed clinic from four unique perspectives. Tom Nelson, the owner of TNT, is a speed guy with an NFL background. Nelson is an expert in speed-based weight training. Brandon Stryganek is a sprint coach at TNT. Brandon was instrumental in the development of Illinois-bound Declan Rustay, winner of the 100 and 200 state championship in 2017. Stryganek was an All-American sprinter who ran 10.27 to win the Big Ten 100 meter dash in 2015. The third member of the TNT Festival of Speed coaching staff is Chris Korfist, known world-wide for his training methods. The fourth guy is me, the “Feed the Cats”, train at 100 mph guy, who was lucky enough to coach the 2018 IHSA 3A state champions in all four sprint events, setting state records in two of them. The Sunday clinic alone will be worth the price of admission.
Brandon Stryganek was the summer coach of 2017 100 meter state champ, Declan Rustay. Marcellus Moore (far right) won the 100 meters this year with a state record time of 10.31 (age-15). Rustay, Moore, and Dubem Anikamadu (far left) all participated in the sprint science study last summer.
The day-1 activities will be held at Hinsdale Central H.S. (outdoor track, field house if raining). The day-2 clinic will be held at TNT in Mt. Prospect, IL.
Early bird price is $150 (at the door the price goes up to $200).
You won’t find an event like this anywhere else. TNT Festival of Speed will be one of a kind.
